Picture Book Market

According to reports, the UK children’s book market grew for the 4th consecutive year in 2017. It is valued at 383 million pounds and there were circa 63 million children’s books sold last year. One out of every three books sold in the UK is a children’s book.

Julia Donaldson is the leading picture book author, most famous for her story of the Gruffalo. She writes in rhyme. She works with the illustrator Axel Scheffler and it is the combination of the rhyming words and lovely illustrations that make the books so good.

It is interesting to note, that as well as clearly liking to read rhyming books, a recent survey has shown that almost half of children (aged 8-11) also like to write poetry, at least once per month in their free time.
